John "Doc" Turnbull

Acoustic Guitar Making Course

Historic Highfield Homestead, Stanley Tasmania

Welcome to the first John "Doc" Turnbull guitar making course. John was not only a great guitar maker and player, but a inspiration, not just to me but all who were lucky enough to have meet him. John sadly passed away in 2015. Each year that l came down to do my classes he would visit the workshop. It was always a pleasure that John took the time to come and meet my students and talk about his experience's in guitar making, something that l will never forget and learned so much from the great man. I felt is was only fitting that from now on the course l do in Tasmania each year be named in his honour. Such a beautiful man.

The area is known for its old growth forests and local timber sand our workshop is set on a hill overlooking the Tasman Sea. Chris will guide you through how to build an acoustic guitar in the old workshops of historic Highfield Estate (circa 1834).

You will complete your guitar using the same teaching methods used in our Melbourne courses.
